Since 2018, Ukrainian Urban Forum has been facilitating the exchange of experience and networking among activists, researchers, government officials, and all those interested in the equitable and sustainable development of Ukrainian cities. The main goal of the forum is to deepen the discussion on urban development in Ukraine and to strengthen professional and informal ties in the community.
About Forum
“The Day After Tomorrow” was the theme of the 2021 Forum. The pandemic brought a deep sense of uncertainty. At a time when planning even for tomorrow felt difficult, we invited people to dream and talk about what cities of the distant future could look like.
Our events centered around the concept of the right to the city and explored what that right might mean the day after tomorrow. We invited participants to discuss transformations in cities — their causes, their impacts, and who drives these changes and benefits from them.
- Who are urbanists, and what do they advocate for?
- What alternative scenarios for urban development exist?
- Who decides whether we need a metro to Troieshchyna, a hyperloop, or — finally — new shelters for unhoused people?
The Forum took place in a hybrid format, featuring both in-person events in different cities and online discussions.
