Since 2018, Ukrainian Urban Forum has been facilitating the exchange of experience and networking among activists, researchers, government officials, and all those interested in the equitable and sustainable development of Ukrainian cities. The main goal of the forum is to deepen the discussion on urban development in Ukraine and to strengthen professional and informal ties in the community.
About Forum
We are pleased to announce that the Ukrainian Urban Forum 2024 took place in Chernivtsi! This is the sixth edition of the forum, and this year we wanted to focus on the interaction between society and space, and talked about how to create fair and accessible cities.
The main topic of this year’s forum was “Society and Space”. Over the course of two days, we discussed the relationship between the social and spatial development of Ukrainian cities. The Forum’s cross-cutting topics included the update of housing policy and the development of social housing in Ukraine, planning for an inclusive and sustainable urban future, mobility and public transport, and prospects for the development of education in urban studies and planning.
The forum combined vertical formats of panel discussions and presentations with horizontal activities, including walks, workshops, and informal networking. In addition, Ukrainian Urban Forum 2024 became a platform for meeting and sharing experiences among representatives of grassroots initiatives, local governments, research institutions, and international organizations.
Ukrainian Urban Forum continues to be a travelling event, and this year, at the invitation of our local partners, the event took place in Chernivtsi. Forum participants had the opportunity to explore the city, meet local activists, and learn about Chernivtsi’s development priorities for the coming years.
