What is gentrification and do we have it in Ukraine?
Gentrification has become a global phenomenon, experienced in cities as different as Kyiv, Berlin and New York. But how can "gentrifications'' be compared? What is the role of politics, and what can be done to achieve more affordable, democratic and socially just cities?
Matthias Bernt has compared the relations of public policies and gentrification in London, Berlin and St. Petersburg and will talk about differences, similarities and lessons to be learned.
PD Dr. habil. Matthias Bernt works as a Senior Researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space in Erkner and a private lecturer at the Humboldt University of Berlin. As an urban scholar he has extensively studied gentrification, urban governance and housing and published extensively on these issues.
After the lecture we will have a discussion with Ukrainian researchers about the local context of gentrification.

- Pavlo Fedoriv – geographer, analyst Cedos.
- Aliona Lyasheva – housing policies researcher.
