Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 has significantly increased the number of challenges territorial hromadas and local governments are facing. Finding answers and overcoming this challenges requires the involvement and active participation of residents.

“It is necessary to take into account the needs of different people, different social groups, to involve them in decision-making. It is important that hromadas are able to make participatory decisions about their future. Their ability to implement these decisions, find resources and partners, and ultimately achieve success depends on how high-quality the decision-making processes are,” explains Cedos director Ivan Verbytskyi.

Cedos recently started working on the project “Leave no one behind: public participation for hromadas` recovery planning”. It’s goal is to strengthen the capacity of hromadas to involve residents in the recovery process to overcome the consequences of the war and the challenges it caused.

The project сonsists of several components, including:

  • two discussions and six workshops with the participation of Ukrainian and international experts;
  • creation of a manual and an online course based on the analysis of various experiences of using participatory practices;
  • assistance to 10 hromadas in participatory planning of recovery and development and finding solutions for current challenges.
